Solar PV Backup system – Kolir Comprehensive Secondary School (SAO-Uganda)

This is a pilot wind energy harvest research project in Uganda under the Uganda National Council for Science & Technology (UNCST). Three sites were selected under this research project namely Binikira Primary school (3KW wind & solar Hybrid) in Lyantonde, Bukasa Secondary School(3KW wind & solar Hybrid) in Kalangala, and Liar Primary School(5KW wind & solar Hybrid and a 5KW wind Turbine system) in Moroto

A typical site has a 60m meter tower with weather measuring equipment including pyranometers, wind vanes, anemometers, barometers, temperature & humidity sensors to measure different parameters of wind, solar radiation, air pressure, etc in addition to a solar/Wind hybrid system. The energy generated will be monitored and evaluated regarding the wind parameters measured from the meter tower.

The main objective of this project is to establish the potential of wind energy harvesting technology in addition to benefiting the schools where these systems have been installed in way of supplying electrical energy for classroom & security lighting, and computer usage among other

This Project was funded by the Government of Uganda, Implemented by All in Trade Limited & Peco International, and supervised by Energy Initiative Limited
